Brush Away the Pounds

The concept may sound irrational at first, but clinical studies have  proven that frequent teeth brushing decreases those intense cravings for junk food, thus resulting in a lower overall calorie intake.  In short, brush more to weigh less.  Its pretty simple and healthy.

Here is how to lose weight by brushing your teeth:

Step one: the second that you start to feel the craving for snacks head to the sink and load up your toothbrush with some of that minty paste.  Similar to Pavlov’s dog when he used classical conditioning, your brain is ‘programmed’ to think you are finished eating.  If you can trick your brain into thinking your done eating then you will consequently eat less.

Step two: repeat step one. It is really that simple  to implement portion control.

You know what else is interesting about brushing your teeth?  If you brush for six minutes per day (3-4 brushing sessions to stave off snack attacks) you will lose one pound of fat per year due to the calories burned.  Awesome!

These Shoes Were Made for Walking

There are many things that can cause weight gain – genetics, lack of exercise, poor diet and eating beyond your means. Today TheDietSearch.com is going to focus on one aspect of exercise, walking.

A lot of dieters will be extremely regimented with their food intake and consider themselves apt dieters without involving the crucial element of exercise into their habits. Not only does exercise help you break down and burn the food that every human needs to consume for survival, it also releases a handful of endorphins providing a great natural high on life.

Many people are overwhelmed by the term “exercise” but the truth is that consistency over intensity is the name of the game when looking to lose weight via exercise. It’s not necessary to race to the gym and purchase a membership. Simply walking around the neighborhood for 20 minutes after you eat dinner can do wonders to the waistline in lieu of a healthy food diet.

In addition to getting into a habit of daily walks, another good routine to train yourself into is walking during your lunch break. Whether you packed your lunch or going out to eat at a restaurant, research some parks or restaurants that allow yourself a solid 10-15 minute walk to reach. There are other small tricks you can take to squeeze in extra calorie burns – get off the bus a stop before the office and walk the rest of the way, park in the furthest possible parking spot if you drive to work, seek cafes that are on the second floor of buildings and take the stairs to get your caffeine fix. By setting your schedule in a way that forces you to walk, you’ll quickly find that the pounds will begin to shed.

Walnuts Help Prevent Breast Cancer

The American Association of Cancer Research recently released a crunchy study that suggests that walnuts may help keep Breast Cancer from spreading.

A study involving mice specially created to develop tumors were fed a daily diet equivalent of 2 ounces of walnuts in humans, while another group of mice ate a normal diet. The walnut group of mice had a significantly lower incidence rate of breast tumors, fewer glands with a tumor and smaller-sized tumors.

The study suggested at the molecular level that consumption of omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants and phytosterols in walnuts contributed to the tumor resistance. “It is clear that walnuts contribute to a healthy diet that can reduce breast cancer,” noted the American Institute for Cancer Research.
